A.A. PATTERSON is improving his house by making several more rooms on the first floor in the rear of his Grocery.  Heretofore he has had to live up stairs, which was very inconvenient.

Dr. WADDELL, formerly of this place, was here this week after their team.  He started to drive through to Chagrin Falls last Tuesday morning.

FOR SALE -- The house and lot on Main Street, formerly owned by Mr. WADDELL.  For further information enquire of F.M. FITTING.

O. HOWARD is putting a new roof on his shop-building on main street.

As WORTH GURNEY and JOHN WINEMILLER were driving into town last Tuesday, the vehicle, in passing rapidly over some uneven place, threw Mr. GURNEY out.  The horse, which was a young one, got frightened and ran away.  Mr. WINEMILLER, being left in without any means of stopping the animal, jumped out.  Neither of the men were much hurt, but the colt ran furiously through town completely demolishing the buggy.

As ALLEN COLLY was riding a horse last Monday evening, on Markey Street, the horse stumbled and fell, throwing Mr. COLLY off between the horse and the fence.  He had a tight squeeze, but was not hurt much.

The Ladies' Sewing Society of the Universalist Church, will meet at Dr. McMAHON's, on Thursday May 3rd.  A general invitation is extended.

It was five years ago last Friday, Apr. 20th. since our marriage;  after the close of the Murphy-meeting, we were taken by surprise at more than a score of our neighbors rushing in and taking possession;  a general good time was had, we were favored with a number of articles appropriate to the occasion;  the party dispersed at a late hour.  We unite in hearty thanks to all who were present and especially for the gifts.  The following persons were present:  Rev. Mr. and Mrs. N.A. SAXTON, O.H. GURNEY and wife, W. GARFIELD and wife, W.F. MADDEN and wife, CHARLES and JOHN RIDENOUR, J.W. KELLY, HATTIE SIMPSON, A. LONGSHORE and wife, ELLA ALLEN, KATIE EDWARDS, SUSAN REID, MATTIE MERRILL, LIZZIE ERISMAN, FLORENCE and BLANCHE STEVENS, and Rev. H. FAUS and wife, who officiated at our marriage.  -- FRANK AND ELLA STEVENS.

A Bill has been passed both branches of the Legislature, granting privilege to the Trustees of Jefferson Township to call a special election for the purpose of voting on the erection of a Township House, to be used jointly by the town and township.  Such a house is much needed in this place for holding elections, School-board and Council meetings, also convenient and safe storage for public documents, &c.

An effort was made last Sunday night to blow open CUNNINGHAM & LITTLE's safe.  An entrance into the office, was effected, by prying open the door.  The dial knob of the lock was broken off.  Two holes were drilled into the side of the safe and powder introduced.  The match had been put to it, but was ineffectual.  Had they succeeded, they would not have found any money.  A large sledge, a brace and a half-inch chisel were found in the office.  The safe had to be sent to the manufacturers for repairs.

The cellar of LANEHART's new building is nearly dug out.

Since Mr. A. ORDWAY is out of the mercantile business he has gone out to sell rat traps;  also with the object of benefiting his health.

In the roll of honor last week, the address of SARAH E. STRUMP, should have been Ransom Centre, Mich.

The Ohio Liberal has changed hands.  The new proprietors are Messrs. MYERS & FOULK.

JOHN F. KANAGA and family, have left their farm and have bought the new house erected by A. ORDWAY, in FITTING's new addition, and moved into it.  We welcome all such people who come to our town.

DEATH OF AN OLD CITIZEN.  ELIJAH CLARK, more generally known to the people of the county as 'Squire CLARK, died at his residence in Mansfield on Friday the 13th. inst.  Mr. CLARK was born in Washington County, Pa., November 9th., 1810.  He came to Richland County in the year 1815, and a few years later learned the tailor trade in the shop of DAVID McCULLOUGH.  Soon after this he removed to Bellville, this county, where for a number of years, and until his health failed, he followed his trade.  In June, 1843, he was appointed postmaster of Bellville, receiving his commission from President Tyler.  He held the office only for a short time on account of change in administration.  And in 1853 he was again commissioned, and this time by Franklin Pierce, and held the office until the Douglas-Breckinridge split in the Democratic party in 1859, when Mr. CLARK advocating the Douglas cause incurred the enmity of President Buchanan, who superseded him by appointing Judge Jackson his successor.  In the year 1853 he was also elected one of the Justices of the Peace of Jefferson Township, a position which he occupied continuously until his election by the people of the county to the office of Recorder in 1865.  When he entered upon the duties of the last named office he moved with his family to Mansfield, where he resided until removed by death.  Mr. CLARK was re-elected to the office of Recorder before the expiration of his first term.  He was succeeded as Recorder by the present incumbent, and immediately entered the office as Deputy, a position he occupied until a short time ago, when sickness kept him at home.  Mr. CLARK has been married three times.  His first wife, SARAH NEWELL, died within two years after their marriage, and he remained a widower until November 26th., 1835, when he married RACHEL SINGERY, by whom he had six children, three of whom (two sons and one daughter) survive him.  In November, 1850, he was again bereft of his wife, and remained alone until he married MARGARET ROBINSON in April, 1852, who survives him.  His death was caused by lung and bronchial diseases, from which he suffered for many years.  Against his private character not a word can be said.  While for many years he was unconnected with the church, yet his life was pure and without blemish, and he died in the faith a member of the Presbyterian Church of this city.  Enemies he had none, and was a man in every respect.  -- Ohio Liberal.

The Murphy meetings still continue in this place.  Last Saturday evening, Messrs. HUNTER and JEMISON, from Mansfield, were present.  An intensely interesting and profitable meeting was had.  A number signed the pledge Sunday night.  Regular Church Services were omitted, so that all might attend the temperance meeting in the Disciple Church.  The house was filled to overflowing.  A number left, not being able to get in.  The day meetings still continue with good interest.  The fruits of these efforts are very cheering to all.

G.S. BELL and D.W. WILSON, are home on a short visit.  They are looking well.

O. HAWLEY has overhauled his house, putting up a new cellar wall, four light windows with shutters, re-plastering, new stone steps, etc.  When it is painted it will present a fine appearance.
